TheWineTrip (“we”, “us”, “our”) operates thewinetrip.com, an API-first wine trip planning platform. This policy explains how we handle your data when you use our website, API, or related services.

2. Data we collect

We collect the minimum data needed to provide our services:

  • Trip data: When you generate or save an itinerary, we store the trip parameters (region, days, style, interests) and the generated plan.
  • API usage: For API consumers, we log request counts and API key identifiers for rate limiting.
  • Payment data: If you subscribe to a Pro plan, payment processing is handled by Stripe. We do not store card numbers.
  • Analytics: We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use the site. This collects anonymised usage data such as pages visited and device type.

3. How we use your data

  • To generate and save wine trip itineraries
  • To process API subscriptions and enforce rate limits
  • To improve the platform based on aggregate usage patterns
  • To send transactional emails related to your account (receipts, API key changes)

4. Third-party services

We share data with these third parties only as needed to operate the service:

  • Supabase: Database hosting (EU/US regions)
  • Stripe: Payment processing
  • Vercel: Website hosting and CDN
  • Google Analytics: Anonymised usage analytics

5. Affiliate links

Some links on TheWineTrip (hotel bookings, wine tours) are affiliate links. When you click these, the destination site may set its own cookies. We earn a commission on qualifying purchases at no extra cost to you. Affiliate relationships do not influence our trip recommendations.

6. Cookies

We use essential cookies for site functionality and analytics cookies via Google Analytics 4. No advertising or tracking cookies are used. You can disable analytics cookies in your browser settings.

7. Data retention

Saved trips are retained indefinitely so shared links continue to work. API usage logs are retained for 90 days. You can request deletion of your data at any time by contacting us.

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction or deletion of your data
  • Object to processing of your data
  • Request a copy of your data in a portable format
