Festa dell'Uva di Impruneta: Trip Planning Guide

The Festa dell'Uva di Impruneta is a harvest festival built around a contest. The town's four districts, or rioni (Sante Marie, Fornaci, Pallò and Sant'Antonio), each build an allegorical float and stage a show in Piazza Buondelmonti, and one is crowned the winner. It takes place on the last Sunday of September in Impruneta, a few kilometres south of Florence in the Chianti hills.

The 2026 festival was the 100th, on Sunday 27 September (the organiser counts from 1926). The 2027 programme had not been published when we checked; by the organiser's own rule the next parade falls on Sunday 26 September 2027.

In 2026 the show began at 14:30. The four rioni performed in turn (Sante Marie, Fornaci, Pallò, then Sant’Antonio), with a town band to open, vintage Fiat 500s flying the district flags, and a parade of historic cars. The evening closed with a sound-and-light show projected onto the basilica, and the winning rione was announced at about 20:00.

The floats and costumes are made by volunteers from each rione, who spend September building them.

In 2026 the dress rehearsal filled Piazza Buondelmonti on Saturday evening from 19:00 to midnight, and food stands ran in Piazza Garibaldi (Parco Barazzina) on both Saturday and Sunday. Through September each rione also holds its own dinners and lunches; the programme on the festival site lists them.
